CSVEditor in WPF with MVVM pattern

Greetings! After almost 6 years, I went back to this project to update it and fix some stuff. It’s remarkable how much my optics changed in this time. What I thought as a relatively well-done project back then now looks like a mess. I have to admit that I learned a lot since then, and I hope that this update will make the project more maintainable and easier to work with. The project still suffers from a huge technical debt, but I simply can’t afford to spend a month to refactor it completely. I will do it gradually, but for now, I just want to make it work with the latest .NET 10 and fix the worst. Even now I had to rewrite basically 70% of the codebase. So, I’m well aware the project is still far from perfect, but I hope it will be better than before. I added some new features and fixed some bugs.
Notable changes:
- Updated to .NET 10
- Added support for .webp images
- Implemented long time missing GitHub log-in and operations, so now I don’t have to leave this editor to do all the work
- Implemented improved logging, both for development and production, also added logging into the file
- Keeping track of the last opened folder for selecting and saving files to reduce clickfest and searching for the right folder
- Separated Services and other support code into its own project
- App files are stored in the AppData folder instead of the project folder, so now the project folder can be updated or moved without a fuzz
- Employed Credentials Windows Service to store GitHub credentials securely
- BUGFIX: Replacing images with relative paths resolved
- BUGFIX: Canceling GitHub setup windows now correctly restores a state before any changes, including logging in into another GitHub account
It was fun! It’s not easy to leave it be with the knowledge of how much better it could be still, but I have to move on to other projects for now. I will continue to improve it in the future, but for now, I will leave it as is.
